Sustainability. Europe´s-Future

02.09.2019

As stated above, our project has the overriding objective of raising levels of awareness regarding environmental issues, mainly global warming, at school and local community levels. The importance of this objective cannot be overstressed since Europe's political elites seem to be unwilling to take drastic action against for instance global warming, as is required by the Paris Treaty of 2015. Schools throughout Europe have to step in to fill the void, lest unorganized, but totally justified movements take over like Fridays for Future. March 15 has shown that the movement is gaining momentum. The only way to respond is to intensify efforts at school level, particularly under the auspices of the E.U. Transnational school meetings are therefore the option of choice when it comes to tackling environmental issues. Europe simply has to take a convincing and decided stance. What's more, Europe's populists, who already pose a considerable danger to European integration as a whole, simply must not be allowed to claim that e.g. global warming is just a hoax.
This is where our project kicks in. We want to show that schools in Europe can aggressively tackle this issue, particularly through transnational cooperation which will give schools added clout. Whether it is beach cleaning in Madeira, or public town hall meetings in Latvia, waste management in Serbia, creating sustainable products and lifestyle in Germany and sustainable challenges, all of our project campaigns, which will be aggressively publicized, strictly monitored and supervised and rigorously evaluated will hopefully lead to the desired objective that our schools and other educational Institutions realize the importance of environmental protection at the time of increased global warming.
The project as a whole will follow a familiar pattern. There will be an initial staff training meeting where one representative from our partnerschools each come to Germany to receive training in the field environmental issues with the emphasis on global warming. This will be followed by five transnational meetings at our respective partnerschools. During each meeting a fixed plan of activities (workshops, info booths, conferences etc.)will be realized all of which have the overriding goal of promoting increased awareness as regards environmental issues. A lot of material will be produced during these meetings (pamphlets, papers, videos etc.).
After each meeting a phase of evaluation of the previous meeting and preparations for the next one will include meetings with the administrative bodies of our schools, conferences, intensive exchange of information witth our partners, careful selection of participants for the following transnational meeting and planning the next trip abroad or hosting a meeting.
